Bad films and memes. Brain = OFF.

  • Jul. 3rd, 2009 at 12:10 AM
interesting
Just saw Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. OH GOD THE PAIN. See, I loved the first movie. I love big dumb movies. I liked The Core, for chrissakes. But that?? TOO FAR, MICHAEL BAY. TOO FAR. Seriously, it was on The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor levels. Not quite as bad, because I was at least entertained on occasion, but... SMASHING HISTORICAL MONUMENTS OH THE PAIN.

To take my mind off it, HEY LOOK A FANDOM MEME.

Pick 12 characters you like, and then answer the questions below the cut about them. Obviously first choose your characters before you see the questions.

1. Starbuck (Battlestar Galactica)
2. Robin (How I Met Your Mother)
3. Adam (Heroes)
4. Casey (Chuck)
5. Chuck (Pushing Daisies)
6. Castiel (Supernatural)
7. Dexter (Dexter)
8. Martha Jones (Doctor Who)
9. Susan (Chronicles of Narnia)
10. Aryan (Dhoom 2)
11. Roy (The Fall)
12. Locke (The Lies of Locke Lamora)

I would actually read MOST of these fics. )

There isn't really much going on in my life at the moment - recovering from excessive amounts of work, about to start the next lot, sleeping in and generally being bleeeh. It's lovely, but hardly exciting to blog about.

So you get a meme instead.

Movie Meme

Rules:
1. Pick 16 of your favorite movies.
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the movie.
5. NO cheating, if you don't know any of them then that's just too bad.
6. You don't have to be tagged in this to play.

I like a wide range of movies... )

Hence, PROCRASTINATION!

1. Put your music on shuffle.
2. For each question, press the next button to get your answer.
3. YOU MUST WRITE THAT SONG NAME DOWN NO MATTER HOW SILLY IT SOUNDS!
4. Tag 10 friends who might enjoy doing the memo as well as the person you got the note from Fuck that, do it if you want.

I always get self-reflective at this time of year, so I guess this is kind of perfect.

16 True Things About Me )

I guess I tag anyone who wants to do it. I feel mean otherwise. I mean, what if you don't want to do it? What if you DO and I don't tag you?? THE POTENTIAL HEARTACHE, PEOPLE.

So yeah, my lectures are over, the Christmas holidays have unofficially begun (though I'm not technically off the hook for another... 25 minutes) but I have much work to do (boo) and writing to look forward to (yay!). I've also got that talk about potentially studying in America next year and Sci-Fi Society tonight watching Dr Horrible and the Dr Who movie. Good times.

Strange thing happened at Loinfire Club last night. I actually found myself liking one of the characters. Not any of the main characters, of course, just this sideline wizard called Bram who, for some reason, we wound up reading in a welsh accent. It just made him sound so happy.

Katie's Week of Epic Social: Day 7

I just realised my Week of Epic Social actually ends up as 8 days. WHATEVS.

So, today was Unexpected Social as I wound up going to Full Collapse, the alt music night at Hild Bede, with MattMatt and Freddie, which was awesome. There was good music, I got DELICIOUS BURGER (and somehow wound up hitting MattMatt every time I said it), though Gilesgate hill has politely decided to remain covered in slush which freezes every night and is building into an ice rink. Getting to lectures still takes 10 minutes longer, and I'm tempted to buy a toboggan or something.

Random thing. I ran into one of the guys who cast me in that film, and he said my audition was amazing, and that I'd basically got the part the second I walked out of the room. Which made me go very pink and mumble something to the floor. But SQUEE.

And, because I'm up late and thoughtful and want justification to eat more chocolate, a MEME!

What the hell, all the cool kids are doing it. And by 'cool kids', I mean, 'three consecutive people on my flist'. You guys are cool, right?

01. Put your music player on shuffle.
02. The first lines of twenty songs = a poem; the first line of the twenty-first song is the title.

As if I don't have many things to do, on this most busy of busy days!

.... actually, I've only just gotten up at 1:15 (a new low for me) and I'm not doing anything till 8 tonight, when I go to see The Dark Knight. SCORE!

Um, where was I? Oh yes.

Congratulations! You have a week-long gap between exams. This is the first evening you've had in a while to chill and take a break. What do you do?

1. Go out with friends straight after exam, drink one pint of cider on an empty stomach and immediately get embarrassingly wobbly?

2. While wobbly, make plans to see Iron Man FOR THE THIRD TIME tomorrow? (I can't freaking believe I love this film this much)

3. Also while wobbly, try to talk normally on the phone to your mother?

4. Do cross-stitch and watch Stargate, where you get incredibly giddy over Daniel Jackson's 'Blue Steel' in the opening credits?

5. Or... A MEME? )

Yeah... totally 'all of the above' in my case.

PS I'm worried that, with everything I'm hearing about Twilight, I might do something stupid. No, not read it. I'm getting the urge to write a GOOD vampire novel. Not necessarily well-written (I really don't know if I'm any good) but just... vampires done RIGHT. NOT sparkly. In any way. And they might just have themes from Classical Epic.

Today was May Day, a day celebrated in Durham by going down to the bridge in the particularly Narnia-esque area of the city and watching morris dancing as the sun comes up. Often much mead is also drunk, which I provided this year having so much of the stuff left over from Banquet. However, I discovered that merely not sleeping is enough to get me acting drunk, without the added annoyance of nausea.

I said a lot of random stuff to poor Beccy, who just nodded along and looked vaguely alarmed. Including:

"The day is young! Far too young! Us being up this early is practically statuatory rape!"

"No no no see we're BOTH evil twins. It'll be awesome! We can rain doom and brimstone over all this land... and we can call it... This Land..."

"He's a marine AND a morris dancer?? That's AMAZING. He's like a... a MARRIS DANCER."

"I'm HOT 'cuz I'm FLY! You AIN'T 'cuz you NOT! This is why, this is why, this is why I'm HOT!!"

That last one was said a lot. With attempted gangsta dancing. It's entirely this video's fault. I really need to watch all of How I Met Your Mother so I can stop trawling youtube for videos.

Aaaaanyway. It was a fun morning. I didn't end up drinking anything myself, and even retired at a sensible hour (8am), mostly because my mood switched from 'Insanely random' to 'Quiet down to the soul', and all I wanted to do was look at the pretty view. Because seriously, Prebends bridge is beautiful at that time of day.

I went a little nuts with my camera trying to capture the beautiful light quality, but it didn't really work. I also went a little nuts in general. So here, pretty and LOLface photos.

Bollywood, LOLduck and Unexpected!Cathedral )

And now, UNEXPECTED MEME!

I was tagged by [info]nowhack.

Is there a film/television/literary character that best represents you in some way? People who know you would point out with amusement the similarities between yourself and the fictional creation…and people who don’t know you could construct some idea of who you are.

It can be more than one character and the connection can be anything: personality, looks, behaviour...all of it together or one part in particular.

And I'm gonna tag (picked at random):

[info]reasonablycrazy
[info]trinityblack (BWAHAHAHAHA)
[info]pyjamagurl

and anyone else who fancies doing it.

Is it wrong I've already put some thought into this? )

I was tagged by [info]evil15smiles. She made a list of the best David Anders episodes in Alias, so I of course obey.

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now, shaping your spring. Post these instructions in your LJ along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they're listening.

1, Magic Carpet Ride - Steppenwolf (I've loved it for years, I seemed to be hearing it all over the place and never knowing what it was. It drove me mad. But then, FINALLY! It showed up in Sahara and I could check the soundtrack listing on imdb and I could finally get it off iTunes! LO, THE POWER OF THE INTERNET. Wow, wasn't that a fun story?)
2, Dhoom Again - Dhoom 2 soundtrack (I've raved about these films before, so I won't get into it again. Suffice it to say that the male villain sings this song just after he's stripped off his Queen drag, batted away bullets with a surfboard and surfed off into the desert. And 'Dhoom' is Hindi for 'Rock'.)
3, Stargate SG-1 theme music (This is getting shameful, guys. I've watched over two seasons in 4 days. And every time, I bob along to the music with a huge smile on my face. THEY'RE GOOD OPENING CREDITS, OK? Incidentally, I'm torn between the wacky bodyswap episode and the one where they go back in time to the 60s for my favourite.)
4, Our Farewell - Within Temptation (It's just so preeeettyyyyy. And made me realise that I'm going to kill my favourite character in a story I'm writing. AGAIN. Because that's how my plot bunnies roll.)
5, Rock Star - Nickelback (Yeah, me and everyone else on the planet.)
6, Prelude to War - Battlestar Galactica series 2 soundtrack (There's always one on my BSG soundtracks that I listen to repeatedly, and it changes with time. It used to be The Dance, but that's already worked its way up to my #7 most played, so it's gotten a little old. So I'm back to this one, because it's all *serious* and *determined* and *I freakin' love the strings*.)
7,The Kids Aren't Alright - The Offspring (Fell in love with it when I saw a Heroes fanvid with it. Can't stop listening to it. Gaaah.)

Soooo, that's my List. ARE YOU ON THE - okay, I'll stop now.

Tagging [info]trinityblack (because she never posts), [info]reasonablycrazy, [info]athenegenia, [info]marcus_felix, [info]pyjamagurl, [info]mylla and [info]kleenexcow.

List ten fictional characters you would have sex with (in no particular order) and tag five people to do the same.

1. Adam Monroe (Is it wrong that the first guy I thought of was a psychopathic villain? Yeah, I... I think that's kinda wrong.)
2. Ardeth Bay (I watched both The Mummy and The Mummy Returns this week. And... dayam. DAYAM.)
3. Dean Winchester (I resolved to only have one per fandom, and it took some debate between him and Sam, but El Deano ultimately won. Sam is just a little too freakishly tall.)
4. Casanova, as played by David Tennant (No explanation needed. At least, not if you've seen it.)
5. Kyle Reese (I only just saw The Terminator, OK? And fell in love with him embarrassingly quickly. "Come with me if you want to live"?? I would have followed him ANYWHERE.)
6. Captain Jack Harkness (His dabbling is innovative, apparently.)
7. Sylar (OK, I know I only said one per fandom, BUT SO HELP ME, I'M ONLY HUMAN.)
8. Apollo (He may have in fact been the Greek God of Smex.)
9. Prince Caspian (This is going by the movie trailer, not the book. Because in the movie trailer.... once again. DAYAM.)
10. Aragorn (Hey, Arwen must have been ready to give up her immortality for SOMETHING.)

Five others... er... [info]reasonablycrazy, [info]ibroketuesday, [info]squeegee_burble, [info]pyjamagurl and [info]marcus_felix, you're up.

ANOTHER MEME! SOMEBODY STOP ME!!!

Basically, as usual, you set your iTunes or whatever to shuffle and take the first 25 songs. Then you're supposed to add 'in my pants' to the end of each title. Because it is hilarious.

Of course, I decided to go one step further and change it to 'in Sylar's pants'.

Things I have learned -
1. I somehow have the mental age of a 5-year-old and yet a very dirty mind, and
2. I have far too much Steps on my iTunes.

'Nother meme. This is getting really, really shameful.

Basically, I want to create a fandom playlist. So I want all my LJ friends to suggest one song - a favourite, or one you think applies to you, whichever - for me to put on it. If it's rare and you can send it to me, or tell me somewhere I can get it, that'd be great.

I'm actually in the middle of a Latin translation, but got distracted by this meme, stolen off [info]barkinmad

Choose a fandom (Heroes, specifically for Sylinder the Sitcom) and, setting your iTunes to shuffle, write drabbles based on the first 10 songs. But here's the catch - you only have the length of the song to write them.

ACK.

Well, the songs I got were:

-
-
-
-
-

There's crack, emo, even a little Bobhinder. Dammit, that ship gets EVERYWHERE.

Because apparently Barnas finds it funny when I fangirl. Yoinked from [info]squeegee_burble.

OK, so you write down 5 TV shows:

1. Heroes
2. Battlestar Galactica
3. Doctor Who
4. Smallville
5. Supernatural

and then you answer questions on them. Choose them without peeking!

.... I actually think those questions could be crackier. Maybe I'll create my OWN meme.
